The barracuda is a genuinely serpentine predator in behaviour, if not in phylogeny. Long, laterally compressed, capable of very high acceleration over short distances, with a hunting strategy built entirely around stillness followed by a single committed strike. If you were casting a fish to play a viper, this is the one.
Plymouth’s Barracuda arrived in April 1964 with an enormous wraparound rear window and the misfortune of being sixteen days early to a party that Ford had already booked, catered and named. The Mustang defined the segment. The Barracuda spent ten years being the interesting alternative, and then in 1970 the third-generation E-body arrived, and the Hemi ‘Cuda became one of the most valuable American cars ever made.
The fish, however, is Actinopterygii — ray-finned, bony, with a swim bladder and gills — and no amount of behavioural convergence will get it through the door of Book II.
